Frequently Asked Questions

How does your service compare to national chains (i.e. TruGreen, Weed Man) or large local companies (i.e. Real Green, Emerald Lawns)?

  • We evaluate and treat each lawn truly individually, based on its condition and soil testing, while most other companies might have specific programs for different states or geographic areas, but generally treat every lawn the same and simply spray whatever mix is in their tank that day.

  • We assign a specific team lead to be in charge of servicing your lawn who will be familiar with its history and condition, while most other companies send out different "technicians" every time they service your lawn.

  • Many other companies use blend of liquid high-nitrogen fertilizer (to give a temporary green up of lawn) and either pre-emergent or broadleaf herbicides. This is somewhat similar to applying cheap weed-and-feed product to your lawn, which neither properly weeds nor properly feeds the lawn.

  • We only use professional-grade granular fertilizers, which provide nutrients to your lawn for up to 6-8 weeks, and spot treat weeds with herbicides needed to control your specific weeds. We don't blanket spray your lawn with herbicides (an exception might be the first application, if your lawn is completely overtaken by weeds).

Do you use granular or liquid products?

  • We use granular fertilizers (which can be formulated to slowly release nutrients to your lawn, unlike most liquid fertilizers), and liquid herbicides.

Which brand of products do you use?

  • In most cases we use Andersons professional-grade fertilizers and soil amendement products. There are many herbicide brands, and we use the ones most effective in controlling the specific weeds client's yard has.

Do you do top-dressing of dead/weak areas of the lawn?

  • Generally we don't recommend it as top-dressing is stressful to existing grass, top-dressed area will not be leveled with the remainder of your lawn, and it will not remove the underlying cause of weak areas. In most cases, our recommendation is to remove the underlying cause (usually improper irrigation coverage and/or scheduling), heavily spike aerate the area, and apply proper fertilizer and possibly soil amendments. Plugging or over-seeding the area might be an option depending on your specific grass type.
